Abstract

Purpose: to develop and evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of a context-based snakes and ladders learning media integrating Jombang regency's local economic potential for teaching economic activities to seventh-grade junior high school students.

Method: this study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The media was evaluated through focus group discussions with 5 social studies teachers and classroom implementation involving 32 seventh-grade students. Data were collected using questionnaires and observations and analyzed descriptively.

Findings: the developed learning media was highly practical, with practicality scores of 88.75% from social studies teachers, 90.63% from the classroom teacher, and 93.46% from students. It also demonstrated high effectiveness, achieving 87.50% student engagement and an 89.06% positive student response during classroom implementation.

Implications: context-based Snakes and ladders learning media can serve as an effective and practical alternative for enhancing students' engagement and contextual understanding of economic activities in social studies learning.

Originality: lies in integrating the local economic potential of Jombang Regency into a context-based snakes-and-ladders learning media for social studies.
